Free University,
Bolzano

On 31 October 1997 the Free University of Bolzano was founded (non-state). For the design of the complex of buildings intended to house it, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - Alto Adige held a one-stage construction competition in February 1998. The new buildings were punctually inserted in the context of the road, giving a marked profile to the spaces facing the road; the buildings were connected through underground paths giving functional order to the multipurpose classrooms. Each of the buildings has an entrance to the university. The main entrance is located on the square created, facing the railway station. Through a clear access design, the functional areas are optimally connected to each other; sufficient corridors of communication have been created in the corridors. The classrooms are centrally located and easily accessible from all sides. The main building houses the different faculties. The administrative offices will be located in the central building.
